Routes & Branches 6/3/17

Promo Photo 1 - by Talley Media.jpg
A busy show this week.  I had The Dustbowl Revival stop by the station and play a couple of tracks from their soon to be released self-titled album. They are a high energy band mixing traditional string instruments with trombone and trumpet to create a fun original take on how their music is created. I also played so Jimmy LaFave and Allman Brothers tunes to honor the recent passing of LaFave and Greg Allman. And on top of that we started our summer membership drive this week. Thanks to all the listeners who called or went on line and pledged their support to this great community radio station that we call KRVM. If you read this blog, I encourage you to become a KRVM supporter today by going to: http://krvm.org/ and clicking on the donate now button. Tell them Tim from Routes & Branches sent you.

Routes & Branches 5/13/17

I first want to thank Mark and Nancy for covering me while I was away on vacation. If you want to see their playlists, please go to krvm.org to find our spinatron link.
I spent the end of my vacation checking off one of my bucket-list items by attending a couple of days of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. As anyone who attends these kind of festivals you know you have to make your choices and you won't be able to see all of the musicians you want to see. My wife and I did catch several of the bands I play on  my show including Feufollet, Beausoleil , The Batture Boys and The North Mississippi Allstars (at Tipitinas). I also caught Stevie Wonder who is a great american artist who I admire and had never seen before. He put on an outstanding show at this year's festival which will be a memory I will never forget.

Yonder Mountain String Band stopped by the KRVM studios this afternoon on their way to a show at the McDonald Theater. It has been 2 years since I last spoke with the band and at that time Ali Kral and Jacob Jolliff had been members of the band for only a few months. Now after a couple of years of touring they seem right at home. Everyone agrees that this band is stronger and better since Kral and Jolliff joined. They treated us with playing two new songs from their upcoming new album "Love Ain't Love" due out in June.

Leftover Salmon stopped by KRVM this afternoon on their way to a gig at the Hi-Fi Music Hall. They are really excited about where the band is at these days with the current line-up of Drew Emmitt, Vince Herman, Greg Garrison, Andy Thorn, Alwyn Robinson, and the newest member Eric Deutsch on keyboards. Emmitt and Herman say that with this band that they can do what ever they want from the traditional bluegrass tune to Cajun to jam rock all in the same set. Plans are to go into the studio in May with a new album coming out by the end of the year. They may say the name stinks but, I love me some Leftover Salmon!!!

David Olney, Daniel Seymour and Tim Little at Sam Bond's Garage 1/26/17.

I started to write this a week ago and was pulled away by family needs. My radio show is certainly something I enjoy doing, but it is a volunteer job and sometimes life has other plans.
I enjoyed talking with David Olney and Daniel Seymour on last week's show. We talked about his book of sonnets and his new album due out in March.
This week we started our winter fund drive. If you listen to KRVM please help support the station with your financial contribution. If you read this blog, please tell them Tim sent you.

Routes & Branches 1/21/17

Robert Earl Keen was in town last night and put on a great show for the crowd at the WOW Hall. I liked many of the songs he played, but he did not play "Shades Of Gray" so I had to play it on my show today. I also had to start off with my wife's favorite band since I didn't fit them into last week's favorites. And then I had to play some Chris Chandler & Paul Benoit who were also in my group of favorites for the year but didn't make last weeks show since their songs are so long and I had too much to play anyway.
From there I moved into some new albums to the station and some folks coming to our area in the near future. Be sure to tune in next Saturday when I will be talking with David Olney about his music.
