Routes and Branches Play List 6/28/08

3-5pm

This week I had the opportunity to listen to the new Woody Guthrie Tribute Tour disc Ribbon Of Highway Endless Sky way. I found it a very moving performance that has as much meaning for our country today as the songs and stories did when Woody sang and told them in his day. Featuring this album on my show this week gave several of my sets a feel for the working men and women who make this country go from one day to the next, a major theme in Americana music. Anyone who likes the music of Woody Guthrie will appreciate this new representation of his work.

There has been so much good music here in Eugene this week. Wednesday we started with One Horse Shy at Sam Bond's. They are a great band that comes right out of Americana. Thursday night we had the opportunity to see Railroad Earth. They featured many of the tracks on their new album "Amen Corner" along with some old favorites. With Greensky Bluegrass opening the show it was a great evening of music.
This week's show included both of these groups along with several others due to play in our area this summer.

In honor of father's day I started the show with Johnny Cash followed by Roseanne Cash. In the second hour I featured a new band from Ashland,Oregon called One Horse Shy. I talked with Cris Kelly of One Horse Shy on Friday. He said that the new disc evolved over the past year with songs written by himself and Manda Bryn the lead vocalist for the group. But the album came together with recently added Lap Steel player and vocalist Bob Evoniuk. One Horse Shy has a great sound that is sure to please any Americana listener.

Railroad Earth have a new album out with a whole bunch of great new songs. Since they are due to visit Eugene in a week & half, I decided to make them my feature artist for the afternoon. I have been a big fan of Railroad Earth ever since I first heard their Elko disc. They have that great way of stretching out a song and just jam on it awhile combined with that great bluegrass sound.
If you listened to my show, I hope that you enjoyed it. Tune in to KRVM 91.9FM every Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5pm.
