I would first like to thank Shotgun Majors for sitting in for me last week while I was at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Fransico and this week to Mike Meyer for covering me while I'm at our local home improvement show for my business.
Last weekend's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass show in Golden Gate park was everything I had hoped it would be. With over 80 performances throughout the weekend it was hard to see everyone we wanted to, but my wife and I did catch 21 different performances over the course of the weekend. Highlights for us include Patty Griffin with Buddy Miller on guitar, The Dukes of September which featured Boz Scaggs, Donald Fagen and Micheal McDonald (Friday night's closer), Band Of Heathens, Guy Clark, A songwriter circle which included Steve Earle, Robert Earl Keen, John Doe & David Onley, then on to Jerry Jeff Walker, Buddy Miller and closing Saturday evening with Steve Earle and the Dukes. Sunday's acts included The Felice Brothers, Martin Sexton, James McMurtry, Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women (Dave's brother Phil was there and played a tune with Dave), Rosanne Cash and Yonder Mountain Stringband. We closed the weekend catching the end of Del McCory's set followed by Emmylou Harris backed up by Buddy Miller and friends.
It was an increadible weekend of music free to the public thanks to the generosity of Warren Hellman. Thanks Warren for throwing the best party in the country.
