Routes & Branches 6/23/12
This week I tried to play as much music and talk as little as I could. In addition to hosting my regular show I stayed overtime to cover our Acoustic Junction show which regularly follows mine. So you get 4 hours worth of play list this week featuring mostly performers who will be coming to Oregon this summer. I focused on three summer festivals starting with the Oregon Country Fair (July 13-15) followed by Pickathon (Aug 3-5) and NW String Summit (Aug 9-12). I also did a set featuring Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers along with Emmylou Harris who will be at The Cuthbert here in Eugene.
Either Acoustic or Electric I hope everyone catches some live music this Summer.

Routes & Branches 6/16/12
Our second Saturday of our Summer fundraiser here at KRVM. My thanks go out to all who donated this afternoon. The positive feedback of Routes & Branches was very encouraging. I will continue to bring "Our kind of Music" to the air each and every Satuday afternoon.
I'm looking forward to seeing Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks and their band tomorrow evening in Portland. Although they cover a wide variety of music some of which doesn't fit in an Americana show, I can't get enough of Trucks guitar work and Susan has such a voice that ca't be beat. Together they make excellent harmony.

Routes & Branches 6/9/12
Today was the start of KRVM's Summer Pledge drive and I want to thank all of the listeners who called in to pledge their support of KRVM and especially my show Routes & Branches. I also want to thank anyone who pledged on our website. When I was talking with Ray Wylie Hubbard last week about Americana music and how to define it, He said that it was you our listeners who define what Americana is by listening to and supporting the music with your support of this station and program. Radio worth listening to is worth supporting. Everyone can be a member supporter of KRVM by going to our web site: http://www.krvm.org/ clicking on the "Pledge Now" button.
As part of my fund drive show I pulled out a few more older and vintage tracks including John Hiat, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, and James McMurtry. Of the new cuts this week I tried to put some connections together like playing Railroad Earth followed by Bovine Social Club since Tim Carbone of RR Earth was the producer for BSC, and I followed James McMurtry with John Fullbright because McMurtry said that Fullbright is one of the most interesting songwriters he has heard recently. I also like Neil Young and Crazy Horse's new CD "Americana". I like how they have put new life into some great old tunes.

Routes & Branches 5/19/12
This week I had several personal distractions so there wasn't much focus on the show today. So here are some random notes on the playlist.
I can say that I did see Roger Cline and the Peacemakers when they passed though town this week. They seemed a little more rock n roll than I had expected from their description but I liked their show and I played a track they did at the show. Nancy Griffith sure has some attitude with her song "Hell No (I'm Not Alright)", and Joe Goldmark has some excellent pedal steel work on his new CD "The Wham Of That Steel Man". I like the new version of "Oh Susana" done by Neil Young. It is the only song I have heard off his new CD "Americana" and I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of the disk. I just put my hands on a copy of the new live CD from the Tedeschi Trucks Band and although it is more Blues/Rock than Americana I sure do like it a lot and I'm looking forward to seeing them perform in Oregon next month. After reading an article in our local paper about Gregg Allman's new book which quoted Allman as saying that he believes in reincarnation with reference to Derek Trucks, I believe it too.

This week I had the pleasure of having The Shook Twins into the KRVM studio on there way to play a show over at the Axe & Fiddle. The first thing one notices when listening to The Shook Twins is their amazing twin harmony vocals which come from a lifetime of singing together even though they are still in their 20's. Drawing from indie folk to 60's pop The Shook Twins create a unique blend of Americana music that is inspiring and uplifting. I also like their use of old and new technology in creating their sound, Katelyn with an old telephone receiver to give a low tech sound to her vocals and Laurie by using loops and other electronics to give her banjo a beat-boxing effect. The Shook Twins are making their mark on the west coast music scene.

Routes & Branches 5/5/12
It is Spring time and the new releases are blooming. This week I'm really liking new CD's from Grant Peeples, who's "Prior Convictions" have made some music that matters. Also on this week's favorites list is the new Hank Williams III album "Long Gone Daddy". The lead title track, a remake of his Grandfather's "I'm A Long Gone Daddy" makes me feel like he is channeling his Grandfathers ghost.
I'm also liking Portland artist Dan Weber who's "Hank & Jesus" tune is also related to Hank Williams Sr.
The press sheet that came with John Fullbright's new disc "From The Ground Up" had a recommendation on it from James McMurtry so I knew that this was going to be good. In the second hour I went into "Rehab" with New Country Rehab along with a track from J P Harris & The Tough Choices who we number one on the FAR charts this month. And I finished up with Chelle Rose's new Cd "Ghost Of Browder Holler" which was produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard and one from Hubbard's latest "The Grifter's Hymnal".
