Anyone who knows me would say that I have a strong passion for live music, from local artists to national performers, which explains my absence for the past couple of weeks and how local guitarist Will Brown all ended up on today's show.
I saw Will perform over at Cosmic sometime last fall and totally enjoyed his finger style guitar playing. The past couple of weeks filled me with so much music that I just had to share some of my favorite highlights today and I know that I did not get to all of them. Most notably absent from today's list are The Steep Canyon Rangers who were the host band on Mountain Song At Sea, but I will have plenty of more opportunity to feature them on future shows since they will be coming to Eugene in May. Cayamo has so much going on at one time that there are always some shows that I don't get to and two hours on the radio is not enough time to feature all the artists.
One of the best things about Mountain Song and Cayamo is hearing performers that I have never heard before. My first day on Cayamo I met some folks from New Mexico and I asked them who they suggest I check out and they said Max Gomez. I caught his first show on the boat and picked up his cd the next day. On Mountain Song my favorite new discovery was The Kruger Brothers. They made playing well look easy.
There are many memories that are special from this journey but I have to say that my highlight was sharing a beer with Dave Bromberg on the pool deck while watching John Fullbright preform.
